About Us

Turath was born out of a deep desire to reconnect with heritage and culture. Founded by a college student who, in the wake of the war on Gaza, felt compelled to learn more about the history of Palestine, this journey soon led to an exploration of her own roots in Egypt. What began as curiosity transformed into a passion for understanding the richness and diversity of Egypt's heritage, far beyond the familiar symbols of the pharaohs and modern icons like Mo Salah and Mohamed Ramadan.

Through this journey, she discovered that Egypt is a mosaic of ethnicities and cultures. From the Nubians in the south, who share cultural ties with Sudan, to the Bedouins in Sinai, whose thobes closely resemble those of Palestine, Egypt is home to an incredible range of traditions. These stories are not widely known, but they are the heart and soul of what makes Egypt so unique.

At Turath, our mission is to celebrate and preserve these shared traditions. Inspired by the resilience of the Palestinian people in maintaining their cultural identity, we aim to do the same for Egyptians and the Arab world at large. Our collections feature traditional Egyptian dresses and abayas that represent the diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds of Egypt—from Nubian vibrance to the elegance of Sinai's thobes. We are here to educate and remind the world that borders are colonial constructs, and our shared heritage unites us as Arabs.

Turath is not just about fashion; it's about pride in our history, our traditions, and our values. Our goal is to bring modest, beautiful clothing to the West, allowing women to embrace their roots with pride, and to highlight the connections that bind us across the Arab world.
