Supporting Our Brothers and Sisters

At Turath, it’s important for us to remember our family, neighbors, and communities in need who are facing struggles and hardships across the Arab world. We believe in the power of unity and helping one another during times of crisis. Below, you’ll find information on the current challenges in Egypt, Sudan, Palestine, and Libya, along with links to organizations where you can donate to support those affected. Every contribution makes a difference in the lives of those who need it most.

Egypt
Egypt is facing a range of socio-economic challenges, including poverty, unemployment, and inflation. Political repression and human rights violations have also increased in recent years, impacting freedom of expression and civil liberties. Additionally, the impacts of climate change and water scarcity are exacerbating issues around food security and living conditions for many Egyptians.

Donations can help organizations working on improving access to education, healthcare, and support for the vulnerable populations affected by these crises.

  1. Resala: A well-established Egyptian charity that works on various projects including supporting orphans, providing healthcare, and alleviating poverty.

Sudan

Sudan is currently engulfed in a severe political and humanitarian crisis, which began with a military coup in October 2021, overthrowing the transitional government that had been set up after the ousting of former president Omar al-Bashir. Since then, the country has been plunged into violent conflict between rival military factions, most notably between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a powerful paramilitary group that grew out of the notorious Janjaweed militia.

The RSF, led by General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (also known as Hemedti), has been vying for control of key territories and resources, clashing violently with the Sudanese military, headed by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan. This power struggle has led to widespread violence in urban centers, including the capital Khartoum, and has escalated into a full-blown civil conflict.

Food shortages, displacement, and human rights abuses are widespread. The conflict has displaced millions of people, and there is an urgent need for food, water, shelter, and medical supplies.

Humanitarian aid is critical in providing life-saving assistance to those affected by the ongoing conflict. Donations help provide essential resources such as clean water, food, medical care, and shelter for displaced families.

  1. UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees): Provides life-saving assistance, including shelter, water, and healthcare to displaced Sudanese families.

Palestine
Ongoing military operations, blockades, and restrictions on movement have left Palestinians facing a humanitarian crisis, with shortages of essential supplies, medical care, and infrastructure damage. The situation in Gaza is particularly dire, with high levels of poverty, unemployment, and limited access to clean water and electricity.

Donations can help provide much-needed humanitarian aid, including food, medical supplies, and rebuilding efforts in Gaza and the West Bank. Support also helps advocacy organizations working toward peace and justice for the Palestinian people.

  1. United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA): Provides critical support for Palestinian refugees, including healthcare, education, and food.

  1. Palestine Children's Relief Fund (PCRF): Focuses on providing medical care, humanitarian aid, and education for Palestinian children.

Libya
Libya has been struggling with instability since the 2011 uprising that toppled Muammar Gaddafi. The country is divided between rival governments and armed factions, leading to ongoing conflict and a deteriorating humanitarian situation. Civilians are caught in the crossfire, with many displaced and in need of basic resources like food, water, and medical care. The country's infrastructure is severely damaged, and many regions are without essential services.

Donations help organizations provide humanitarian aid to displaced families and support rebuilding efforts in Libya’s war-torn regions. Additionally, support is needed for peacebuilding initiatives and human rights advocacy.

  1. International Rescue Committee (IRC): Provides essential aid, including healthcare, emergency support, and protection for vulnerable populations in Libya.

         2. Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC): Delivers emergency support for          displaced families in Libya, focusing on education and shelter.

Syria
The Syrian crisis, now in its 13th year, has created one of the largest humanitarian disasters in recent history, with over 16.7 million people, including millions of children, in need of urgent assistance. The situation has worsened with economic collapse, conflict-driven displacement, and regional instability, leaving over 90% of the population below the poverty line and severely food-insecure. Health, water, and sanitation infrastructure are failing, and critical funding for relief efforts has reached a record low, with only 24% of needed funds received

To help, several organizations provide direct aid to Syrians in need, such as:

1. UNHCR – Supports refugees and displaced persons with essential supplies and shelter.

2. International Rescue Committee (IRC) – Offers medical assistance, food, and livelihood support.

3. Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS) – Provides healthcare and humanitarian aid in underserved areas.
